  • Coastal Cottage is a pet friendly lodge which has been arranged specifically for anyone who is blind or has low vision. We have braille labels, talking scales and microwave, vibrating doorbell and smoke detector (please see full list below). An ‘orientation show round’ may be arranged for those who require it, this must be booked prior to your stay.

So, if you are wanting to bring a dog this cottage’s calm, relaxing and inviting surroundings is the one for you.

  • There are three stunning en-suite bedrooms, one with a welcoming king size bed, one that can be a double or two singles and the third with two singles, one being a profiling bed with looped tracking hoist. All the rooms are light and spacious and have patio doors leading outside. All our curtains are blackout-lined so you can have that lazy lie-in should you choose.

As well as a free standing bath and walk-in shower. One en-suite also boasts a wet room based on changing places design with a wet room shower, drop down shower seat, changing bench, wheelchair accessible sink, high toilet and grab rails.

  • The large open plan kitchen with dual height hob and sink allows everyone to take part in rustling up a feast. The kitchen has a full range of appropriate utensils including light-weight pans, a talking microwave and scales, dishwasher and kitchen trolley for transporting food. We have a no pour kettle under-counter fridge and freezer along with a lockable cabinet for medicine and that all important Nespresso machine.

  • The fabulous open plan living and kitchen areas allow all guests to be sociable and come together in one space. At the heart of the living area there is a wood burning stove which makes the property not just functional but warm and inviting; it’s a lovely place to play the included multi-sensory games, read, watch a movie or chat.

The large floor space of each lodge allows for additional specialist equipment to be brought in from home should you require it. We provide personal and expert reassurance that everyone will be comfortable and able to manage their daily living needs knowing the correct equipment is in place.

  • The sumptuous hotel bedlinen is soft and inviting and so you can't help but drift off, we provide spare linen if required and two extra beds per lodge can be added and/or a travel cot for larger families are available on request.

The master en-suite comes with a large beautifully tiled walk-in shower. Bathroom 2 has a freestanding bathtub perfect for a luxurious deep soak and a few minutes peace. Bathroom 3 has been designed using the changing places design to ensure ease of access and to maximise independence, its bright funky colours will make you feel alive and ready to go. All bathrooms have a heated towel rail for those warm fluffy towels for when you are finished.

  • Step outside and you'll discover a sun-soaked terrace complete with a table and chairs and a barbecue, perfect for meals alfresco. Next to that is a bubbling hot tub, with access to a hoist. Within the paddock there is plenty of lawn space, and a play frame for our younger occupants. Snuggle up by the fire pit on those chilly evenings and enjoy a glass of something.

  • Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome at Lower Laurel Farm. We charge £35 per dog per week. There is no charge for assistance dogs.

The Owner

Paul served for 19 years in the British Army, deploying to Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Kenya and Afghanistan.  Such deployments combined with the recovery from them highlighted the plight that so many people experience both physically and mentally.  Through contact with injured servicemen and their families he was driven to invest in an ethical business.  While conducting further research he was struck by the scarcity of holiday accommodation that was suitable for disabled people across the UK and the idea for Coastal Cottage was born.
